Ludo Gold Rush
Hybrid Casual F2P Game
Play. Raid. Spin. Conquer.
Zupee's Ludo Gold Rush combined Ludo gameplay with a kingdom-building and slots-style meta layer to drive engagement, rewards, and repeat play.
Through iterative improvements across FTUE, game economy, progression, and visual polish, the game scaled to 8,030 installs, achieving 19.7% D1 retention, 70% first Ludo played, and 18.6% first kingdom built. A layered progression loop blending strategy, rewards, and kingdom-building into one addictive F2P experience.
Challenge
- Turn a familiar board-game mechanic into a scalable F2P loop with enough progression to create daily habit
- Reduce friction in the first 2–3 minutes: onboarding, first Ludo, first prop build, first kingdom build
- Create a production pipeline that could ship high-quality kingdoms, props, and visuals quickly with a small team
Product Solution
- Core loop: Play Ludo → earn coins & spins → build and protect kingdom → spin to attack/raid → repeat
- FTUE simplified so players understood value visually, not through heavy text
- Game economy tuned via config-driven rewards, nudges, and balance changes

Retention Hooks & Meta Layer
Daily Quest
A daily quest layer created a clear reason to return, with rewards tied to streaks and weekly progress — turning short sessions into a repeat habit.
Ludo with Powers
Tactical powers made the core game more dynamic and skill-driven, adding surprise moments beyond pure dice luck.
Weekly Leaderboards
Social competition gave players a fresh reason to push harder each week, creating urgency and status.
XP Progression
Made advancement visible across kingdoms, missions, and unlocks — a stronger sense of mastery and long-term growth.
Bubbles Bounty
A limited-time event layer with bursty rewards and a strong visual identity — added novelty and reactivated players mid-week.
Design & Growth Learnings
- Players respond better to visual cues and forced flows than to heavy text in FTUE
- Acquisition quality matters: Facebook drove stronger sign-up and first-Ludo-play performance than Google in India
- The board-game loop works best when the meta layer is simple, legible, and rewarding immediately
- Speed matters: rapid configs, shorter loops, and visual polish improved the product's ability to convert curiosity into repeat play
The evolution wasn't just in features — it was in transforming a familiar board game into a scalable, emotionally rewarding F2P ecosystem.
